Clinical Update: Updates on GLP-1 Receptor Agonists in Obesity Management

Compounding: Common Deficiencies in USP

United States Pharmacopeia (USP) has undergone significant revisions to its general chapters 795, 797, and 800, which went into effect November 1, 2023. These updates reflect evolving regulatory landscapes aiming to enhance the safety, quality, and consistency of compounded medications. However, the implementation of these revised standards poses challenges for compounding facilities, which may encounter deficiencies in meeting these revised requirements outlined by the USP. This session is going to explore some of the common deficiencies within these USP chapters. By addressing these challenges proactively, compounding practitioners can uphold the highest levels of quality assurance and patient safety in their operations.

Clinical Update: Oncology Supportive Care Measures for Community Pharmacists

After attending this session, pharmacists will gain a deeper understanding of personalized chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting management, including emerging therapies and optimal timing and dosing. They will have improved knowledge on preventive measures, early intervention, and novel treatment options for oral mucositis, as well as options for compounded therapies. Pharmacists will have enhanced proficiency in recommending preventative treatments for both diarrhea and constipation, tailored symptom management, and chemotherapy specific medication dosing. Lastly, pharmacists will have an increased knowledge of subtle signs of oncologic emergencies and facilitating timely patient-provider communication.

With the grand appearance and rapidly changing landscape of value-based payment models, providers are under constant pressure to meet a moving target. While incentives are provided for performance, limited mechanisms are put in place within these models to set providers up for success. Pharmacy teams have faced their own unique pressure points in recent years, but one theme has been consistent with new clinical opportunities for pharmacists: there is value in collaboration. Collaborative clinical services present an avenue for pharmacists to address gaps in care and enhance the overall coordination of care. Beyond this, they promote an opportunity for pharmacists to establish trust and showcase their value. However, even with providers and pharmacists working together, there is a challenge in addressing care for some of the most at-risk patient populations. In this session, the various avenues for collaboration will be explored to showcase community pharmacy teams as anchor points in providing value beyond the billing codes. Suitable for Techs
